Can CBD Help With Essential Tremors?
Essential tremors impact millions of people worldwide. In fact, 1% of the general population suffers from the nervous system disorder. ET characterised by the involuntary and rhythmic shaking of any part of the body, most commonly the hands.
Although everyone has tremors throughout their body, the distinction that categorises essential tremors is that the usual tremors experienced by people cannot be felt or noticed as they’re too small. Meanwhile, the tremors experienced by ET sufferers are strong enough to be noticed. Beyond this, they can negatively impact the day to day activities carried out by those struggling with ET. But, can CBD help with essential tremors? Possibly so.
Current Treatment Options
Two of the most commonly prescribed medicines to treat essential tremors are Propanolol and primidone. Brain surgery is another known remedy for severe cases of essential tremors. Alongside medicinal methods of treating essential tremors, lifestyle changes, such as avoiding caffeine and alcohol, have been shown to help ease the symptoms of ET. One of the more new treatments to be proposed for essential tremors is the use of CBD.
CBD
CBD stands for cannabidiol, a naturally occurring component of medicinal marijuana that is derived from the hemp plant. In recent years, lifestyle gurus, doctors and even beauty companies have been hailing the substance as a miracle worker. This is due to its ability to ease symptoms of anxiety, chronic pain and other ailments.
One of the most commonly found forms of CBD is CBD oil, which is created through combining the substance with a carrier oil such as coconut oil.
CBD has begun to be looked at as a potential aid for those suffering from essential tremors, as it possesses anti-tremor capabilities. On top of that, one of the major strengths of CBD is its limited mind-altering side effects it possesses, when compared to marijuana.
A lot of prescription medication used to treat ET can negatively impact mood and case separate issues such as depression. However, CBD has been studied and shown to help alleviate symptoms of depression and other mental health issues.
As a result, it is currently being studied as a potential method of alternative treatment for ET due to its usage providing a natural anti-tremor remedy accompanied by minimal side effects.
Essential tremors begin in the brain, and CBD can both target and regulate the ESC receptors which cause muscle spasms, like those experienced by people with ET. Resultantly CBD can help encourage the relaxation of these muscles, easing the symptoms experienced by ET sufferers.
More Research May Be Needed
Clinical research has been carried out looking into the use of CBD to treat essential tremors. These include the controlled trials conducted by the University of California San Diego in 2020 to assess the effectiveness of its usage. These trials are even approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, while the scientific studies are still ongoing, there
are online testimonies of ET sufferers who found CBD to be an effective method of treatment for their condition.
Currently the FDA does not have CBD listed as an approved method to prevent, cure, or treat essential tremors. As such, while these studies are still going on and the results are not confirmed, it remains essential for people seeking medication for ET to consult their doctors regarding treatment. Furthermore, if a consumer intends to use CBD, they must carry out their own research on how trustworthy brands are and which products they wish to use for treatment.
