CBD Oil For Burn Scars
In the healing process of an injury, scars are quite normal, and having them is not often a big issue. But for some individuals, having scars can drastically affect their lives. Scars can sometimes cause pains and psychological issues for some people.
Over the years, researchers in the medical field have made many findings on how cannabinoids — especially CBD can be beneficial for the skin. These findings have made a lot of individuals believe CBD oil can play a key role in helping to reduce the effects of scarring. Let’s take a closer look at using CBD oil for burn scars.
Why Do Scars Form?
We will explore how CBD might help reduce scarring, but how are scars formed in the first place?
Scars begin to form after a cut or burn in the skin begins to heal or as a result of skin conditions such as acne. Inflammation of the skin often occurs when the skin breaks. When that happens, the body releases leukocytes (white blood cells), which defends the injured area against infections and pathogens. To ensure that blood clotting takes place, platelets move to the injured area to facilitate healing. As soon as bleeding stops, cells found in the connective tissue called fibroblasts begin to produce collagen, a protein that forms elongated fibers. The fibers produced by collagen helps to strengthen the injured area as it continues to heal. The effects of the collagen fibers often make the injured region look elevated or bumpy. When that happens, a red appearance is often noticed in the region, which is as a result of the increased flow of blood. This is the initial stage of scar formation that can last for many weeks.
With time, the rate at which collagen is produced is reduced, and the flow of blood becomes normal. Normally, the scar will begin to fade away when that happens. However, it would take a lot of time for the scar to finally fade off. But it doesn’t happen like this all the time. Sometimes the scar will not fade away but will continue to grow and become worse.
How Does CBD Help To Treat Scars?
It is a known fact that cannabis produces thousands of compounds. CBD and THC are two of the most commonly known cannabis compounds. While they are both popular, CBD has proven to be the most potent cannabis compound over the years. This is heavily attributed to the fact that it doesn’t cause any “high,” unlike THC. While CBD is gotten from the illegal (not in every region, though) hemp, it is widely considered legal because of its therapeutic effects.
CBD releases its effects by acting upon the endocannabinoid system of the body. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) regulates the wide array of biological processes in the body. The ECS is found in the skin and other parts of the human body. In the skin, it functions to enable cell growth and development as well as to control inflammation. ECS has been found to play a significant role in wound healing. Research on molecules has demonstrated that ECS regulates the action of fibroblasts, which produce collagens.
Hence, by promoting the activity of CBD in the ECS of the human body, it tends to promote the healing and reduction of scar formation. The experts even suggested that regulating the effect of CBD in the human body can help to enable scarless healing. CBD has also been found to have anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic properties.
That being said, you must seek the advice of a physician before using CBD as a treatment for scars.
