Does Cannabis Oil Have THC In It?
Cannabis oil has recently gained a lot of attention for its potential benefits. It’s used in a variety of forms ranging from tinctures to lotions and salves. Cannabis oil has a myriad of medical benefits and is capable of treating severe epilepsy. It’s growing in popularity, and you may have many questions surrounding its properties, such as does cannabis oil have THC in it? Before we answer this, you need to understand what exactly Cannabis oil and THC are.
What is Cannabis Oil?
Cannabis oil is extracted from Cannabis sativa whose medicinal properties have been touted for more than 3,000 years. The oil is created by a process called “chemical extraction.” This method uses a solvent to extract cannabinoids along with other beneficial compounds like terpenes and flavonoids and add them to carriers like hemp oil or MCT oil.
There are many methods of extracting cannabis oil from a cannabis plant, but CO2 extraction is quickly becoming the gold standard. This is because it helps produce safe and effective products free from chlorophyll, waxes, and any toxic residues that other methods can leave.
What is THC?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a compound found in the cannabis plant that is psychoactive and gives the feeling of being high. It acts like the cannabinoid chemicals found in the body. Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in areas of the brain that are linked with thinking, memory, coordination, and pleasure. THC interacts with these receptors in the human body and affects a person’s memory, pleasure, movements, thinking, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception.
THC users generally report a calming and relaxing effect, in addition to the experience of being high after use. Doing things like operating heavy machinery or driving while under the influence of the drug can be very dangerous. THC offers several health benefits and has been shown to help treat PTSD, epilepsy, depression, and even eating disorders.
However, extended use of THC can result in addiction, as your brain craves more and more of the compound to achieve the same feeling of being high.
Does Cannabis Oil Contain THC?
Yes, full-spectrum cannabis oil does contain trace amounts of THC. The Cannabis sativa plant from which the cannabis oil is derived is specifically cultivated to have extremely low concentrations of THC so that it is safe to use. Cannabis plants with THC concentration below 0.3% are classified as hemp, while plants with concentrations greater than 0.3% are classified as marijuana plants. The low concentration of THC is proven not to produce the negative or psychoactive effects on the human body.
Cannabis oil extracted from the hemp plant does contain THC but it is less than 0.3% and does not produce the psychoactive effects associated with the compound.
THC and Regulations
Currently, THC is legal for medical use in 29 states in the USA and various countries around the world. Cannabis oil, on the other hand, is legal on a federal level. However, it should not contain a concentration of THC more than the mandated 0.3%.
Cannabis oil contains a trace amount of THC, but it depends on the plant from which it’s derived. There are various regulations around THC, so the plants are cultivated specifically with a low concentration of THC in them to extract the cannabis oil which is used for various purposes.
