How Much CBD Should I Smoke?
Many people already swear by CBD for relieving inflammation, nausea, pain, insomnia, and anxiety, among other conditions and ailments. Indeed, cannabidiol (aka CBD) products are all over the shelves the past few years for their reported wellness and health benefits. Nowadays, the challenge comes when trying to understand dosages and the available options when you fancy smoking CBD rather than taking it in any other way. So you may be asking “how much CBD should I smoke?” Here is a guide to help you out.
The right dosage for CBD – Is there such a thing?
Admittedly, there is no “right” (universally accepted) dosage for CBD. It seems that several different factors play a vital role in determining one’s dosage so they can get the desired results from CBD. Some of these include:
- The severity of your condition
- Your body chemistry
- Your body weight
- The chosen delivery method
- CBD strength.
That aside, CBD acts on several molecular pathways, so the effect of CBD will be different among individuals based on the factors mentioned above, according to King College London experiments.
How to start taking CBD?
The most fundamental rule is to start low and go slow. Of course, it’s not easy to measure your intake in milligrams if you;re vaping or smoking CBD. In addition, not everybody responds to CBD in the same way. Nevertheless, smoking CBD gives you instantaneous feedback. So if you feel relaxed after a couple of puffs on a vape (not too relaxed, though!), then you are at just the right spot.
That aside, CBD comes in different varieties, which means that different dosages will probably be required. For example, if you’re using a full-spectrum product, you may need to take less of it compared to a CBD-only isolate. According to experts, the starting dosage for CBD-only stuff is around 25 milligrams. However, you can always go down or up from there, depending on your particular case.
Below is a quick suggestion guide for each type of CBD (just for your information as each individual is different). Remember that these are general first-time guidelines. To determine the appropriate dosage for your particular needs, it’s highly recommended to consult with your doctor before starting smoking CBD or another CBD regimen.
CBD isolate. Most people find their sweet spot somewhere between 25 mg and 75 mg. You can start with 25 mg and observe the effects. If you’ve reached the desired results, you stay with 25 mg. Otherwise, you may need to reduce to 10 mg (if the effect is too strong) for a couple of days and then gradually increase to anywhere from 35 mg to 50 mg until you find your perfect spot. You can increase the dose every few days to achieve the maximum benefits.
Full-spectrum CBD. You can start with 5 mg for a couple of days and then increase by 5 mg every two days until you reach the desired effect. This may come at 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg, or higher. Reduce the intake if you notice dizziness or another unwanted response to CBD.
As you can understand, it will take some trial and error to find the appropriate dosage for you.
CBD Dosages for CBD Vape Juice
Whether you’re using a CBD oil cartridge or CBD vape juice to inhale CBD, ensure you have a CBD product intended for inhalation (i.e., CBD tinctures are not designed for vaping, although they may come with similar labels as vapable CBD). As for the amount of CBD per puff, this is a difficult question to answer as it depends on the potency of CBD and whether you take smaller or bigger direct lung hits. You determine the strength per each mL (expressed in mg), you should divide the total amount of mg (refers to the CBD potency) by the amount of mL (the size of the bottle).
Here is an example: Let’s assume that a 30 mL CBD vape juice bottle contains a total of 1000 mg CBD. Doing the math allows us to realize that each mL of the bottle has around 33 mg (we divide 1000 by 30, according to the note above).
Lastly, the liquid capacity of your vape should also be understood. The majority of tanks usually contain anywhere between 0.5-5 mL. You can find the total potency and capacity listed on the cartridges, which makes dosing extremely easy.
CBD Dosages for CBD Pre-Rolls, Concentrates and Flower
To work out dosing for vaping concentrates and high CBD hemp strains, bear in mind that 1 gram converts to 1000 mg. So, if you have a CBD product that is labeled to contain 50% CBD, it means that it holds 500 mg of CBD per 1000 mg (or gram) of CBD concentrate. For a flower rich in CBD that contains 20% CBD, you should remember that each gram contains around 200 mg of CBD. So, vaping one gram of a CBD-rich flower CBD product means that you vaped about 100 mg of CBD. The same applies to CBD pre-rolls, which usually contain 1 gram of CBD bud. Therefore, you can use the same formula for smoking.
Factors to consider:
- Body weight. The amount of CBD flower you will need is related to your body weight. The heavier you are, the more drug you would require. Generally, low weight ranges (less than 150 lbs) can start from 15-30 mg and climb to 90 mg. Medium weight ranges (150 20 230 lbs) can go from 23 mg and up to 136 mg. Finally, the heavy ranges (230+ lbs) should begin from 24 mg and steadily increase to up to 160 mg if the effects are not satisfactory.
- Symptomatology. The daily doses for various diseases and symptoms are different. For a normal health condition, the suggested dose is 1-2,5 mg of CBD to smoke. To fight chronic pain, it is between 2,5-20 mg, while sleep disorders can be alleviated with 40-160 mg of CBD and epilepsy with 200-300 mg.
