What are CBD oils used for?
CBD, otherwise known as cannabidiol, is quickly becoming one of the most popular natural remedies. With more than 100 different chemical compounds in CBD, it’s little wonder that this compound is proving useful in so many ways. But what are CBD oils used for and how to use a tincture of CBD? Although more and more uses of CBD are popping up every day, the following are the already scientifically-proven benefits of CBD oil:
As a Pain Reliever
Marijuana has been used as a painkiller since as early as 2900 B.C., and recent science suggests that CBD and other components in the marijuana plant impact the body’s endocannabinoid receptor activity to reduce inflammation and pain. Therefore, CBD has been used to effectively treat pain related to such chronic conditions as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer.
Reducing Anxiety and Depression
The pharmaceutical drugs used to treat anxiety and depression can often have undesirable side effects including drowsiness, headaches, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. Some of these medications, like benzodiazepines, in particular, have even been proven to cause dependency and addiction.
CBD oil has continued to show promise as a natural substitute to some of these pharmaceutical drugs and has been seen to show successful treatment of insomnia and anxiety in children suffering from the post-traumatic stress disorder.
Alleviating Cancer and Cancer Treatment Symptoms
CBD has also been used to successfully reduce cancer symptoms and some of the side effects that often result from cancer treatment. In one study, 177 people who said they experienced no pain relief from pain medication said they experienced a significant reduction in pain after taking CBD. They also saw a reduction in nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy.
Reducing Acne
CBD is an effective treatment for acne because of its anti-inflammatory properties and the fact that it can significantly reduce the production of sebum. Extensive studies have shown that CBD successfully prevented the production of excessive sebum. And since excessive sebum production and inflammation are the two main causes of acne, CBD is an effective way to prevent and treat acne.
Treating Neurological Disorders
Apart from these four uses and benefits, CBD may also have neuroprotective properties. The fact that it interacts with the endocannabinoid system has researchers arriving at the conclusion that it may be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of certain neurological disorders. Although studies are still very much in their infancy, researchers are particularly interested in how CBD can help treat disorders like multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.
In fact, one study of Sativex, an oral spray that contains both CBD and THC has already yielded promising results. In a study of 276 people with multiple sclerosis, this drug was proven to reduce spasms in 75% of them.
Another study found that giving epilepsy patients 0-0-2.3 grams of CBD oil for 2-5kg or body weight had the effect of reducing seizures by 36.5%. Children with Dravet Syndrome, a form of childhood epilepsy, seemed to benefit from CBD oil which significantly reduces seizure activity.
CBD may also be beneficial in the prevention and treatment of other neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s. You can also create CBD salve to heal your body.
