What is the Strongest CBD Oil You Can Buy?

You’ve probably stumbled upon CBD products more than once by now. Many brands are taking part in the CBD trend and started to add the popular ingredient to their own product lines including oils, topicals, edibles, and cosmetics. With the increasing variety of CBD oils, it can be confusing to determine the “best” or most effective CBD oil. How potent a CBD oil is depends on several factors that are important to keep in mind. So how is strength determined, and what is the strongest CBD oil you can buy?

How Do You Make CBD Oil?

CBD oil is a liquid that consists of cannabidiol (CBD) infused with a fatty carrier like oil. The cannabidiol is a natural molecule of cannabis and can be derived from both marijuana and hemp plants. The oil used to create CBD oil are generally medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) like coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, and cold-pressed hemp seed oil.

Aside from these two essential ingredients, the cannabidiol and the carrier oil are usually combined with other ingredients. Manufacturers may add other cannabinoids like the THC and plant compounds such as flavonoids, terpenes, and other phytonutrients. Moreover, your CBD oil may have added aromatic ingredients such as essential oils to make the product more attractive.

As a result, the CBD oil recipe depends on the manufacturer. CBD oils can differ in color, consistency, and flavor depending on the recipe used. But more importantly, the strength of the CBD oil can vary. It all depends on the quantity and composition of the CBD with the other ingredients.

What Types of CBD Oils are Available?

CBD oils are divided in different categories, namely isolates, distillates, and broad-spectrum or full-spectrum. Firstly, the purest and strongest form of CBD available is not actually an oil but rather a CBD isolate. The CBD isolates are produced by extracting cannabidiol from every part of the hemp plant. This results in a crystalized form of CBD with a purity as much as 99 percent.

Coming in second are the CBD distillates. These distillates are right in between isolates and broad-spectrum. A CBD distillate is less refined than an isolate but more refined than a broad-spectrum. Noticeable is that distillates are more common in states where the cannabis market is legal. The reason for this is because distillates typically exceed the 0.3 percent THC limit as set by federal law.

Lastly, there are the broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD oils. These products are not necessarily sourced from the hemp plant like isolates. The full-spectrum CBD oils benefit from minimal processing and purification. This results in a CBD oil that contains the widest range of minor cannabinoids, vitamins, nutrients, terpenes, and more.

What Determines the Strength of CBD Oils?

To determine what is the strongest CBD oil you can buy, we have to examine how strength is decided. For example, a label that mentions 99 percent pure CBD must be strong, right?  Well, not necessarily. While the CBD is definitely strong, the percentage does not tell us exactly how much CBD is used in the oil. The strength also depends on whether the CBD is an isolate, distillate, or broad-spectrum.

To be certain of the strength of a CBD oil, the CBD potency is key. The CBD potency refers to how much CBD a product contains by volume. For instance, a 30 ml CBD oil containing 5,000 milligrams of CBD is stronger than a 30 ml CBD oil containing 2,500 milligrams of CBD.

But as mentioned, some labels only mention the percentage of CBD contained in the oil. You will often see that labels mention 99 percent pure CBD for an isolate or 70 percent CBD for a distillate. The percentage tells you the strength of the CBD, but it does not clarify the potency of the CBD oil by volume. If you want to be sure to purchase a strong CBD oil, it’s best to find a CBD oil that mentions the amount of CBD in milligrams.

Why is it Important to Choose a Strong CBD Oil?

The strength of a CBD determines the efficacy of the CBD oil. According to experts, a strong CBD oil should offer at least 35 milligrams per serving. However, keep in mind that the strength of a CBD oil also depends on your own preference. If you want to use CBD oil for pain relief and you are experiencing substantial pain of inflammation, you may opt for a higher CBD than someone who’s looking for a CBD oil to help with anxiety.
